Abstrakt

Yulia Yakovleva is a little‐known Russian writer whose work has not received the attention of researchers in Russia, much less abroad. However, Yakovleva’s books are immensely interesting not only because of the fundamental themes for everyone touched upon in them, but also because of the entirely new, previously unseen genre she employs, in which the writer has combined historical events and realism with elements of fabulous fiction. With fantastical elements and the drabness of time and space, Yakovleva presents a picture of the Stalinist repression and the functioning of children within it. Plunging her protagonist into a sick, mentally distorted space and time, the writer shows his forced maturation, moments of transition from childhood to adulthood and vice versa. The main aim of our article is to show the techniques as well as the literary results that have helped the writer to present the image of “children of enemies of the people” more convincingly with the help of the mentioned literary innovation.

Abstrakt

The article discusses the axiological discourse in the novel Green Tent by Lyudmila Ulitskaya. Consolidation of society, its internal cohesion, the development of culture and art as well as politics and law depend to a great extent on the adopted axiological framework. This is fundamental to the reading and interpretation of the writer’s work. The world of dictatorship with artificially invented ideals emerges as an opposition to freedom of thought and action. Using the phenomenon of dissidence, Ulitskaya shows an opposition and unwillingness to obey dictatorship and to be a puppet in the hands of the state system. The writer focuses her attention not so much on the historical epoch as on the human personality and its attitude to what is happening. The problem of dissent, unwillingness to be a part of the mass, resistance to the state system persistently and convincingly reverberates throughout the novel. Reluctant to succumb to the deadness of official morality, the main characters attempt to create their own axiological alternative free from the state’s influence.

Abstrakt

The article analyses the works of Lyudmila Ulitskaya from the point of view of a dichotomous description of anthropological reality in her new collection of stories The Body of the Soul. The authors come to original conclusions connected with the author’s mythologism, especially with the two-variant narrative line developed by the author in the previous periods of her creative work. We were able to prove that in the case of one of the variants, in the collection The Body of the Soul, the author actually revealed the nature of her religious and theosophical views. At the same time, we have shown that Ulitskaya’s literary imagination is not confined to the existing schemes of the metaphysical world, but, on the contrary, it helps Ulitskaya to present this world more colourfully and vividly. Sometimes, for the sake of plot integrity, the writer deliberately changes the elements in the mosaic of the conceptosphere employed.
