Abstract

The subject presented in this paper refers to measurements and assessment of the corrected sound pressure level values (noise) occurring around a medium-power transformer. The paper presents the values of noise accompanying the operation of the power object before and after its modernization, which consisted in repeated core pressing and replacement of the cooling system. The main aim of the research work was the assessment of the influence of the repair work on the noise level emitted into the environment.

Abstract

The paper presents phytosociological and hydrological results of field investigations carried out in old excavation in Mikołów - Gniotek town (the Silesian Upland) in June 2002. Owing to renunciation of building works, primary succession led to form riparian black alder forest Fraxino-Alnetum W. Mat. 1952 of anthropogenic origin. Vegetation of the area is mostly determined by water conditions indepentently of occurrence of sandy and silty clays in the soil.

Abstract

The authors draw on their experience and past mountain landscape studies to describe an emerging collaborative research project designed to conduct advanced field studies and generate (and test) archaeological landscape models of past hunter-gatherer populations as well as pastoralist and early farming community seasonal transhumance migrations between lowland river valleys of Poland’s Podhale Basin and high altitude forests and meadows its adjacent High Tatra Mountains.

Abstract

Isolated internal iliac artery aneurysms are rarely described in the available literature. The paper presents a case of a 70-year-old female with idiopathic thrombocytopenia, squamous cell cervical carci-noma, and saccular aneurysm of the left internal iliac artery, detected in magnetic resonance. The review of aneurysm of the common, external and internal iliac arteries is added.

Abstract

The paper presents a modified in-house model for calculating heat transfer coefficients during flow condensation, which can be applied to a variety of working fluids, but natural refrigerants in particular, at full range thermodynamic parameters with a particular focus on increased saturation pressure. The modified model is based on a strong physical basis, namely the hypothesis of analogy between the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop in two-phase flow. The model verification is based on a consolidated database that consists of 1286 data points for 7 natural refrigerants and covers the reduced pressure range (the ratio of critical pressure and saturation pressure) from 0.1 to 0.8 for different mass velocities and diameters. The new version of the in-house model, developed earlier by Mikielewicz, was compared with 4 other mathe-matical models widely recommended for engineering calculations and obtained the best consistency results. The value of the mean absolute percentage error was 28.13% for the modified model, the best result among the scrutinised methods.
