Abstract

This article aims to present the state of research on terminological density of specialized texts and its denotative dimension in the perspective of anthropocentric linguistics. First, the ontological status of denotative side of terminological density is defined. Next, the interdependence between denotative derivates of specialized knowledge and terminological density is presented, as well as the role of terminological density in determining the degree of text specialization.

Abstract

The articulated landscape of the interpretative vicissitudes that occurred to the verista Verga showed an attenuation of the critical debate on the Etnean writer between the end of the 20th century and the new millennium (Luperini 2005: XIII). However, in those years, transpositions of his works flourished through various forms of expression. Even I Malavoglia, a ‘fiasco’ for its coeval audience, experienced a wave of revisitations through movies, pop music and shows blending different arts.

Abstract

The contribution analyses some issues associated with the presence of English elements such as loan words in the Italian language school final exam in Bulgaria. It specifically concentrates on B2 level texts for listening comprehension and writing from the past three years. Drawing from the examination committee’s insights, the article presents a theoretical discussion regarding anglicisms and a quantitative analysis of a specific didactic and examination context.

Abstract

Academic terminology is not a widely studied area in the field of translation. The aim of this paper is to highlight the difficulties in translating such terminology by analysing denominations for university teaching categories between Poland and Spain. Then, we focus on the techniques used to solve translation problems with other academic concepts. Finally, we present our translation proposal.

Abstract

The methodologies for learning a foreign language, including Italian, are strategies. In recent years, active learning, which places the learner at the center of the process, has become very important. The main objective of this article is to provide an overview of teaching methodologies, with a focus on the Bulgarian situation. In the research, teaching methodologies such as interdisciplinarity, role-play, circle time, cooperative learning, flipped classroom, and peer education will be analyzed.

Abstract

The article focuses on the relationship between language, identity and immigration in the Andreea Simionel’ case with her debut book, Male a est (Italo Svevo Edizioni, 2022). The author was born in 1996 in Botoşani, Romania, and in 2007 moved with her family to Turin, in Italy. The linguistic analysis presents some aspects of interference between Romanian and Italian in the language of the novel (borrowings, calques, linguistic stereotypes, xenisms), highlighting the author’s creative operation.

Abstract

This article aims to draw attention to the situation of neurodivergent students in translation classes at universities. Teachers aware of their students' neurological problems have the opportunity to adjust the content and teaching strategies. What distinguishes neuroatypical from neurotypical students in translation classes comes down to the presence of specific academic difficulties and the need to provide support during classes and in adapting exams.

Abstract

The paper presents a linguistic landscape analysis with elements of multimodality of 60 advertisements of various cultural events collected in Polish public space, written in both Polish and English. The study aims to establish what elements of the advertisements tend to be expressed in English, how, additionally, multimodal tools foreground or background the use of the two languages, and, consequently, what message such choices convey about the status of English in Poland as reflected through the analysed genre.

Abstract

In this article, I propose a ‘literal’ interpretation of Beckett’s postwar theatre, which allows to give importance to an ‘aesthetic of sound’ in which a work of art finds its own sense in the fact that it is a linguistic game created by an author. After 1945, the author becomes unable to speak about the profound themes of the Western tradition, but can write plays in which there is the configuration of an aesthetic of the small talk, to be analyzed according to a hermeneutics of superficiality.

Abstract

In the article an interactive text-reading platform based on the Text 2.0 framework is presented. An experiment was carried out to investigate the reading behaviour of Italian language learners using this platform. Average reading time and comprehension scores did not differ across the conditions (a dedicated eye tracker PCeye Go, webcam-based eye tracking and mouse-only interaction). Additionally, participants in all the groups rated high on the perceived usefulness of the developed platform and overall reading experience. The implications of using such a tool for interactive reading are presented in this paper.

Abstract

Classic Optimality Theory treats phonological computation as a one-step parallel evaluation of output candidates. Such an approach does not handle well phonological opacity, in which the context of phonological processes is obscured on the surface. This article shows two examples of phonological opacity: Tiberian Hebrew Spirantization and Polish o-Raising. While these mappings are impossible to account for in classic OT, they are readily analyzed using the framework of Derivational OT.
