 abstract={New archaeological findings, the results of non-invasive surveys and the interpretation of the rich resource of archival data generated as a consequence of excavations carried out within the castle island, have allowed the authors of this publication a new look at the earliest stages of the erection of the castle in Kórnik. The previously unknown remnants of the foundations were interpreted as remains of the oldest, elongated, brick and stone residential structure measuring 9.20/9.40 × 21.20 m, set along the East-West axis. The single-wing building shows clear signs of redevelopment which the authors connect with the second stage of the construction of the castle, when it was surrounded with defensive walls with a flanking tower, already adapted for the use of firearms, in the north-eastern corner. On the basis of the text of the agreement on the erection of the castle in Kórnik from 1426, the paper presents a new look at several solutions resulting from the document, including the possibility of extending the castle house to the east, as far as the line of the peripheral walls. The last Gothic stage of the erection of the Kórnik structure is represented by well-preserved ground floor traces of the reorientation of its residential development, now consisting of two parallel houses established on the North-South axis, based on the outline of the defensive walls. The authors date the erection of the Kórnik castle to the fourth quarter of the 14th century and associate it with the Poznań Bishop Mikołaj of the Łodzia coat of arms and his brother Wyszota. They further date the second stage of its construction to the second quarter of the 15th century, connecting it with the chancellor of the Poznań Curia Mikołaj Górka, and associate the third stage of the thorough redevelopment of the castle with the second decade of the 16th century and the activity of the Poznań Voivode Łukasz II Górka and his son Andrzej.},
