The main purpose of the author was to determine the spatial diversity of hotel base development in the regional (voivodship) system. Assuming that many factors determine the level of hotel base development in a given area, the author has used a multidimensional approach, or more precisely – a multidimensional comparative analysis in its dynamic variant. Following the adopted algorithm, a potential set of diagnostic variables was identified on the basis of secondary information sources (date of CSO local data bank), then using factor analysis to reduce it to the final set of quasi-variables (four main factors). Based on them, a synthetic measure of the development of the hotel base of particular voivodships was constructed. This in turn allowed to determine the voivodship hierarchical structure due to particular main factors and synthetic variable, with its changes in the years 2002–2017. The voivodship were also divided into homogeneous groups, according to the value of the synthetic measure of development, as well as the direction and intensity of its temporal changes.

The article is a case study of human behaviour against the background of political, economic and cultural changes in the 1990s in the countries of the former USSR based on the example of the life of insects depicted by Victor Pelevin. The writer in his book The Life of Insects reduces all human life to the world of insects, constantly trying to find themselves. Pelevin by means of grotesque and allegory, touches upon the issues of human life and the use of culture by the authorities to educate the Soviet people, depriving them of their personal consciousness and independence. The picture presented by the author makes the reader wonder whether people who are deprived of their own consciousness deserve to live?

Once flourishing in the early medieval India, the materialist Carvaka/Lokayata tradition of philosophy vanished centuries ago leaving mere bits from their foundational sutra, and from a few commentaries thereon. These are scattered in the works of their opponents, hence the winding path to reconstructing the Carvaka/Lokayata thought necessarily begins with evaluating the reliability of the source material. This paper deals with the problem of the brief account of two interpretations of the Carvaka/Lokayata aphorism: 'from these, consciousness', recorded by the 8th-century Buddhist authors Śantarak�ita and Kamalaśfla in the Lokâyata-parfk$a Chapter XXII of the Tattva-sańgraha(-pañjika), critically edited by the author of the present paper.
